Singing Willows Accessibility & Inclusion

Accessibility & Inclusion

At the heart of our company is the belief that creativity should be for everyone. We are passionate about creating meaningful theatre, music, and creative experiences that are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all children and families. We believe that every child deserves the chance to experience the joy of storytelling, imagination, music, and performance,  regardless of background, ability, or additional needs.

As our company grows, accessibility is becoming a core value in everything we do. We are continuously learning how to create work that is more inclusive, thoughtful, and responsive to the needs of our audiences and participants. We understand that accessibility is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to listening, improving, and evolving with every project we create.

In our new show, Singing Willows and the magical bed, British Sign Language (BSL) is being embedded into the creative process from the very beginning. Rather than adding accessibility later, we are exploring how it can exist naturally within the storytelling, music, movement, and visual language of the production. We believe inclusive theatre can be artistically rich, imaginative, and inspiring for all audiences.

This approach extends across all areas of our work,  from live performances and workshops to school projects and community activities. We aim to create spaces where children feel safe to express themselves, build confidence, and connect through creativity. Whether a child is watching a performance, joining a workshop, drawing, singing, or helping to create a story, we want them to feel included and valued.

Alongside our performances, we currently work within primary schools delivering Drawing Clubs that encourage imagination, collaboration, and creative confidence. As part of this work, we are creating a collaborative children’s book with our students,  a project shaped by the ideas, artwork, and creativity of the children themselves.

The completed book will be available to purchase through our website, and all proceeds will go directly towards supporting accessibility within our future productions, workshops, and creative programmes. Through initiatives like this, we hope to continue removing barriers and making the arts more accessible for more children and communities.

We know there is always more to learn, and we are committed to continuing that journey with openness, care, and creativity. Accessibility is not simply a feature of our work, it is part of who we are becoming as a company.
